We’ve all got access to cameras of reasonable quality, whether a point and shoot or even an iPhone. The difference is whether you have the camera ready, with suitable light, an unspoilt background, colour sensitive clothing and the kids looking in the right (or even the same) direction!
It’s that decisive moment phrased by the old master Cartier-Bresson over 100 years ago, when you need all the ingredients that make a quick snapshot become a stunning photograph to stand the test of time and send into the memory bank for years to come.
Making a photoshoot fun, utilising your own home, garden or favourite place is how I ensure you have an abundance of great moments to review, some candid, others with relaxed direction, to select, frame and enjoy year after year as your family grows and the next generation come along.
Living in such a naturally beautiful part of the North West enables each session to be personal to you and your family; realistically once the date is set and location decided, it is simply a lovely fun hour spent recording your family how they are on that day. It is not laboured or stressful (I promise) and the results are something you really will cherish forever.
Involving your family dogs, ponies or hobbies whether classic cars, kayaking or just reading a book makes this shoot different to any that have gone before – so get excited, vision how and where you would like your family to be seen and let’s have some fun whatever the weather!

“We first met Jane after my Mum won a photo shoot & portrait in a competition she was running.
We had been wanting to have some professional photographs taken at the time of our two very ‘lively’ young boys but had kept putting it off . “Having initially felt a little apprehensive at the prospect of being photographed throughout the day my fears of the camera were soon forgotten. Jaine’s professionalism, patience, smile and empathy with all ages of our family made the whole experience feel relaxed and natural allowing everyone to just ‘be themselves’
With 3 children at very different stages of their lives we felt this was a perfect time to capture a moment in our family that we could reflect on as we all move forward. The thought of posing in a studio didn’t appeal to us and wouldn’t necessarily portray our characters. So, the idea suggested by Jaine to have a lifestyle location shoot somewhere that has memories and we could do our thing was a refreshing concept.
From the initial organisation of the date to keeping an eye on the weather forecast through to the day itself Jaine was reassuring and always open to ideas. Jaine just captured us all doing the things we enjoy in a place that has a lifetime of memories for the family. We water skied, kayaked, barbequed and chatted, time flew by and even the teenager was up for more! Jaine made it all feel very simple with no posing required and just blended into the day.
Jaine visited us back at home to show us the images and we were blown away. She had put together a coffee-table album telling a story of ‘that moment in our family’ that we can keep returning to and enjoying. Jaine also produced 3 pocket-book copies of our album to give to the children. These little albums are our favourite and we love that the children all have their own memory to keep too.
Life moves very quickly and can sometimes be very precarious, we feel blessed to have our special family and its been wonderful to have had the opportunity of the lifestyle shoot to freeze that moment in our time.
