You’ll have heard it before: ‘An image is worth a thousand words.’ And in today’s world where people make snap judgements and decisions faster than ever, this couldn’t ring truer!
So, let’s take a moment and consider the amount of thought that goes into the look and feel of a brand – the colours, the design, the logo. There’s no point investing in a beautiful brand if the photography you have to compliment it isn’t up to scratch. Photos are one of the most engaging tools in a marketeer’s arsenal. They show what your business is all about, from the products to the people, and demonstrate what makes your brand stand out from the rest.
This is something I’m super passionate about – using photography to capture unique, relaxed images which express genuine personality!
I definitely make decisions based on instinct. That’s why when I’m choosing to buy from or work with a certain company, I want to know about them. I’ll go to their ‘about us’ page to try and gather a picture of who they are and their culture. That’s why headshots, which show the human side of a company, are so valuable.
Business Headshots
Many employees dread the day when they receive an email saying, “headshots are tomorrow, look your best”. But this shouldn’t be the case! Invite your photographer in before the photoshoot so they have a clearer picture of your brand’s style, spirit and the settings and backdrops they can work with. That way, they can work quickly, without compromising on quality.
It will also help them advise on things like colours and clothing. I’m a real believer in employees dressing for headshots as they would in the working environment. If you’re usually suited and booted for work, great, but if your job involves wearing overalls or jeans and a t-shirt, that’s what you should wear for your photo. This will instantly help the photos feel more natural.
The same goes for the background. If you’re an architect who spends most of your time in your studio or a chef who is always busy in the kitchen, then let’s show that!
I’m also happy brands are branching out from stuffy, staged photos and instead, want their employees’ personalities to shine. Have fun with headshots. Images of your employees with a natural smile or mid-laugh will add so much more authentic energy to the end result. As a people photographer, I’m all about making the process as easy and enjoyable as possible.
Personal Headshots
Of course, headshots aren’t just for businesses.
Personal headshots are the perfect way to build your own brand – whether you’re a budding model, an actor, or someone looking to refresh their LinkedIn profile.
The same process applies – find a photographer you feel comfortable working with and who understands your personality. That way, you’ll end up with a set of photos that truly capture who you are.
Soulmates…..Don’t be bashful …. you may wish for some up to date images for a dating website; great….. how will you find that special someone if they don’t know what you look like or express who you really are?
We can spend a relaxed hour capturing the real essence of you, on location and studio, drinking coffee, walking the dog.. even fishing if that’s your bag!
The last time I shot images for this purpose… she said YES… and I even got to cover their wedding too!
Headshots are a great way of updating your presence across many platforms; however brand photography takes this new look to another level.
A three hour brand photography session will not only update your imagery, it will shout about your business, the approach and ethos behind it.
They will accurately portray the WHO & the WHY in the business, using lifestyle imagery to reflect your approach, providing you with a wealth of strong, authentic, on trend imagery that are prepared for immediate use across all mediums at your fingertips. No more scrambling around for a last minute press release or a quiet week on instagram!
The broad spectrum of imagery may well introduce an element unknown to current clients and certainly inform all aspects to potential clients too.
